Candle Care and Ritual Guide

The Science of the Craft

The Sacred First Burn

Avoid tunnelling:

  • The first time you light your candle, wait to extinguish the flame until the melted wax pool reaches all six edges of the hexagon glass jar (around 1 hour).

  • Extinguishing the candle too early causes the wax to tunnel straight down on future burns, wasting the precious wax on the sides.

  • This gives you the opportunity to have a cozy hour alone to really connect to yourself, your practice, and your new candle.

Trim the Wick (Every Single Time)

Before relighting your candle, always carefully trim the wick to 1/2 cm.

  • A trimmed wick keeps the flame controlled, prevents tunnelling, and stops black soot from staining your clear glass.

The 4-Hour Limit

Do not burn your candle for more than 4 hours at a time.

Burning it longer can cause the glass to overheat and may cause the botanicals to scorch.

**NEVER leave your candle unattended**

Elemental Safety (Crystals and Botanicals)

Our candles are adorned with real gifts from the earth. To ensure a safe and beautiful burn, please follow these guidelines:

  • Remove Large Crystals: Before lighting, gently remove large crystals and place them beside your jar to anchor your ritual space.

  • Mind the Botanicals: Smaller herbs safely sink, but if one has drifted and begins to smoke, safely extinguish the candle and use a metal tool to nudge it to the edge.

  • The Final Centimetre: Stop burning when 1 cm of wax remains. Burning to the very bottom can overheat and crack the glass.

  • Reuse Your Vessel: To clean your jar, carefully pour in boiling water and let it cool. Remove the hardened wax puck, wash the jar with warm, soapy water, and reuse your geometric vessel!

  • Return & Recycle: You may choose to bring your empty candle jars back to us for a special discount on your next purchase!

Enchanting Experiences

Remembering Your Magic

You may choose to simply light your candle, take a few deep breaths and ground yourself in this moment. This is just fine, and just being with yourself and your candle is enough.

If you would like to deepen your practice and connection to yourself and your candle, here are some ritual suggestions to light your way.

  • Before lighting your candle, you may choose to carve a symbol, a name, a sigil, or a rune into the top of the wax to focus and heighten your intentions. You can also draw a permanent sigil or rune on the bottom of the jar. (Stay tuned for new offerings that will enhance this!)

  • You may hold the unlit candle in both hands, close your eyes, take a deep breath, and imagine your intention flowing through your hands and into the wax.

  • Light your candle. Place one hand on your heart and one hand on your belly. Take a deep inhale through your nose and let out the biggest exhale you've had all day through your mouth.

  • Once your candle is lit, you may choose to read the affirmation suggestion on your jar out loud or in your head. You can repeat this affirmation or create your own.

  • Allow this candle to accompany you in your day, whether that's with a Bee-Focused candle while you work from home, a Bee-Clear candle while you clean your kitchen or a Full Moon Manifestation while you take a cleansing bath. Please remember not to leave your candle unattended. It is a partner in your intention; it wants to be with you, not forgotten in another room where it can get up to mischief on its own.

Closing the Space
  • When your ritual is complete, take one final deep breath through your nose and an even deeper exhale through your mouth. Repeat your affirmation, manifestation or intention.

  • You may use your exhale to gently blow out the candle while holding your intention in mind, as if making a wish on a birthday candle.

  • If this does not align with your spiritual practice, snuff out the candle as you prefer.

  • Remember to keep the lid of your candle on between uses to keep the natural fragrance fresh and contained.

  • Bee-aware! The glass may be warm/hot after burning.
