Our organic herbs and florals are intended to sink safely into the melting wax pool. However, as the wax shifts, a botanical may occasionally drift too close to the cotton wick. If an herb begins to smoke or catch fire, safely extinguish the candle and use a metal tool (like a spoon or tweezers) to gently nudge the botanical to the outer edge of the glass.
The secret is the first burn. Natural wax has an structural memory. The very first time you light your candle, let it burn until the melted wax pool reaches all six edges of the hexagon glass jar (at least 1 hour). This ensures a flat, beautiful burn for the rest of the candle's life. Always trim your wick to 1/2 cm before relighting.
For your safety, please stop burning your candle when there is still some wax remaining at the bottom of the hexagon jar. If the flame burns right down to the bare glass base, the intense heat concentrated on the metal wick tab can cause the glass jar to overheat, crack, or damage the surface it is sitting on.
